About Us

Who we are

Ukrainsk Kör Förening — Ukrainian Choir — is a registered non-profit organization in Sweden that brings Ukrainians together through culture, art, and community. Our mission is to preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage, strengthen psychological well-being, and support integration into Swedish society through choral singing, theatre, cultural events, and psychosocial support.

We create a welcoming space where people can rebuild a sense of belonging, express their creativity, and find emotional resilience. Through music, theatrical performances, workshops, and cultural projects, we introduce Swedish audiences to Ukrainian history, literature, language, and traditions.

Our Purpose

Why we exist

The association conducts publicly beneficial, non-profit and inclusive activities that:

Preserve, develop and spread Ukrainian choral, musical and cultural activity in Sweden.
Strengthen cultural identity, community and belonging through song, music and creative expression.
Promote integration, participation and intercultural dialogue in Swedish society.
Contribute to mental well-being, social safety and emotional stability through cultural, community-based activities.
Create safe meeting places for people in different life situations — including those affected by migration, crisis or social isolation.
Advocate for democratic values, equality and respect for the equal worth of every human being.

Our Activities

What we do

A. Choral & Cultural

Regular choir rehearsals and musical gatherings
Concerts, performances and cultural events open to the public
Participation in festivals, cultural projects and collaborations in Sweden and internationally
Working with traditional and modern Ukrainian choral and musical repertoire
Collaboration with musicians, conductors and cultural practitioners

B. Our Theatre

Our theatre is part of the Ukrainian Community Association and welcomes both children and adults.
Through regular classes, participants develop acting skills, confidence, teamwork, and creativity while exploring Ukrainian culture and traditions.
Throughout the year, we prepare for our annual winter performance, where members proudly present their work to families, friends, and the local community.

C. Psychological & Psychosocial Support

Choral singing, music and creative activity as a resource for stress reduction and emotional processing
Group-based supportive activities, conversation groups and community meetings
Psychoeducational efforts on stress, adaptation, emotional health and self-care
Preventive work that strengthens emotional resilience and social cohesion
Involvement of qualified psychologists educated in Ukraine, within a non-profit and preventive context
Information and referrals to healthcare or social services when needed

D. Social & Inclusive

Activities that counter loneliness and social isolation
Meeting places for different ages and groups
Collaboration with civil society, non-profits and municipal actors
Activities that are open, accessible and inclusive

E. Funding & Resources

Applying for and receiving grants, support, scholarships, donations and sponsorships from state, regional and municipal authorities, foundations, organisations and individuals

Partnership

Happy Diabetes

In partnership with the Ukrainian charitable organization "Happy Diabetes" (Shchaslyvyi Diabet), we support children living with Type 1 diabetes in Ukraine by raising awareness of their needs and fundraising for life-saving medical care and support programs.
